Alice to Zouroku (2017)

Oh boy, this anime is pretty sweet with nice visuals. Centers around the importance of parental guidance and how it can shape the mind and heart of the child, wither they realize it or not and regardless of them not being of the same blood. I feel it succeeded in getting the message across, the importance of children and raising them to be better human beings. 

Really liked the old man and his granddaughter(s), pretty chill and good meaning family all around.

Torn between who's the cutest, Sana or Sanae, the happy alien! This shall remain undetermined.

All Quiet on the Western Front (1930)

 

My friend and I have a hobby of watching War movies together, the most miserable and soul crushing movies ever made. Although we go in knowing fully well that the message is always going to be "War is Hell" and everytime we get sad and teary-eyed.

This time however was different in the sense that this movie got remade in 2022. The original is way down the list of movies we knew we had to watch but, the remake demanded us to watch the original solo, so we could watch the remake together, knowing what to expect and see how it holds up.

The movie reminded me of a very similar war movie called Cross of Iron (1977). Both movies showed the german side of the war, although the later showed WW2, both had the soldiers chase women, both had a high ranking officer who never went to the front, face the war and get very surprised by it.

The scenes that got me the most are: when Paul returned from the war and got labeled a cowered and the scenes with his mother.

Numb3rs season one (2005)

Got this recommended to me by a YouTube video on math, it's pretty nice I like it! The thing is, the crimes are so varied and cover very different and distinctive themes and problems that it wouldn't get old too quickly especially with the show being episodic.

It really reignited that nerd in me (I'm not good at mathematics) but general science and it's connection to math is really interesting to me.

This show (season 1) had very wholesome and cute encounters that contrasted with the violence of crime. Really liked the Larry character and the family's conversations with one another and them being proficient in what they do, the father was a city planner, one son is working for the FBI and lastly a genius mathematician.

Cuteness rating: 6/10.

Overall rating: 9/10.

Playing Synthesizer on Airship - Hiroyuki Namba (1982)

Found this album on youtube, it's pretty nice. I liked the opening and the last few tracks more than the rest. 

 

Mutiny on the Bounty (1962)

Back again with another "ship movie" although to my surprise this one is based on a true story. This is a brilliant movie about sailing the world for a noble cause, like the 'Master and Commander' movie, the goal of the expedition was to get a kind of fruit from the far away island of Tahiti back to England. The captain was a real piece of work the actor played him very well I'd say. This story has it all, drama, adventure and sad love story, maybe its weakness lies in its' three hour runtime, too long for my taste.

Moby Dick (1956)

I remember having this novel somewhere in my family's library since I was young, never finished it to be fare. 

A nice movie about a man who has nothing to do in this world but one thing, revenge! I'm a sucker for stories of ships with giant masts that sail the seven seas, although I would drown in a bucket of water but it's the sense of adventure and the thrill of finding the unknown, the exotic places, people and cultures! Though This movie is focused on whale hunting, the diverse and colorful crew aboard the Pequod was really fun to watch and their interactions with one another felt very human and real.

Oh and I guess you learn something new everyday, I was not aware of the so called St. Elmo's Fire phenomena, very interesting stuff!

Whiplash (2014)

 Been meaning to watch this movie for a while and it didn't disappoint. The drama, passion and tenacity of the drummer was so good to watch unfold, although the dating angle was kind of weird maybe get rid of the last phone call in my opinion. Absolutely go watch this if you haven't already!

Duel (1971)

 

Today I watched the movie Duel (1971). For someone who likes the look of older (50s-70s) American cars, the movie is a treat! It has a lot of well filmed shots of cars. I couldn't help but notice some of the directing errors in this, which I usually don't even notice in most movie but in this case in an early shot in the movie you could see a man ducking in the back seat of the old Plymouth, must have been one the camera man maybe? and a second shot in the diner where the camera gets closer to David and you can clearly see the shadow of the camera, kind of took me out of the moment to be honest. nevertheless I like this movie.

    Finally got around to watching this serious yet charming anime, with a lot of medical terms that I don't understand. I loved this show! And having an abundance of cute and human characters, it is only natural that I would like it as much as I did.
